Car Hire
Most Hardy fans who visit Dorchester will want to visit some of the Hardy
sites such as Max Gate, Hardy's cottage and Stinsford church. These places and others
within Dorchester are close enough to be reached by taxi, bus or even on foot.
For the more distant sites transport can be a problem as these places are spread over a
wide area. The best way to get around is by car.
Car rental is available in Dorchester at reasonable cost. Below is the price list of a
hire company called U-Drive they are conveniently situated in the Dorchester railway
station yard.
Foreign visitors will need an International Driving Licence. Below are some
examples of hire charges for different size cars. When a group shares the cost of the hire
and petrol, this is probably the cheapest way to get around. Add the cost of petrol to
hire cost. Petrol costs about 18p/litre plus 62p/litre tax!
